During the extraction phase the most important to block with anaesthesia are the greater and lesser occipital nerves. During the implantation phase they are the supraorbital and supratrochlear nerves. For experienced hands, blocking these nerves are relatively quick and cause little pain. Once the nerve blocks are achieved the patient is pain free during the surgery.

The nerve supplies of the scalp include:

  1. Frontal - supratrochlear and supraorbital
  2. Temporal - zygomaticotemporal
  3. Parietal - auriculotemporal and lesser occipital
  4. Occipital - greater occipital
